Gado-Gado (Cooked Mixed Vegetables with Peanut Sauce)

Gado-gado is a classic Indonesian salad. Gado-gado is known as a food from Jakarta especially Betawi ethnic group. Gado-gado is one of favorite lunch menu for Indonesian people. People usually buy it rather then they make it by their selves. It can be found on the street fender. Due to that, it is typically called as street food. However, do not worry about the taste. It is delightful. It charges approximately Rp.8,000-Rp. 15,000. The words gado-gado it self come from the basic word that is “gado”. It has a meaning that everything that is mixed. In this case, gado-gado is a food that mixes several vegetables as the ingredients of the food. Moreover, basically gado-gado contains by mixed boiled vegetables such as spinach or kangkung (optional), boiled cabbage, boiled potatoes, bean sprout, added by boiled salted egg, fried tofu or fried tempe and sprinkled by fried onion and emping (fried chips made of Gnetum gnemon fruit).Gado-gado is known that it has two variants condiments or peanut sauces. The first and most preferred is the spice of crushed individually. This sauce preferred because it is considered fresher, and more exclusive. For instance, there are people who want to add more chilies, or without kencur (greater galingale), or want to add lime leaves are crushed and flattened into seasoning to give a distinctive aroma and flavor. The second variant is the spices that has been prepared in large quantities and stay poured onto a mixture of vegetable and accessories. Moreover, here there is the recipe of gado-gado.

The sauce:                                              

1 teaspoon salt

1 oz fried peanuts

¼ oz Red chili

½ oz Brown sugar

Water at sufficiently

1 Salam leave

The vegetables:

1 bowl boiled kangkung

1 bowl boiled cabbage

1 bowl boiled bean sprouts

I tomato, sliced it

½ bowl boiled peeled and sliced potatoes

The garnish:

4 fried sliced tofu

2 fried sliced tempe (cakes of compressed, lightly fermented soya beans) (optional)

10 slices of rice cake (optional)

2 hard-boiled salted egg, quartered

1 cucumber, thinly sliced

1 spoon of fried shallots

4 large crackers or 4 handful of fried emping, broken up into small pieces (optional)

Soya sauce at sufficiently

The directions:

Grind all the ingredients for making sauce except salam leave, add water sufficiently so that it looks like a thick liquid.

Put all the vegetables and the garnish except fried shallots on the plate orderly.

Pour the peanut sauce onto the plate that has vegetables and garnish.

Add soya sauce and fried shallots on the top.

The gado-gado is ready to be served

Heart Disease

Heart disease affected that is has become a serious concern for medical science. The heart is a complex organ that is vulnerable to hereditary as well as environmental risks. Cardiologists think of these risk factor as either major or minor causes of heart disease.

There are five major causes of heart disease. First of all, you can get a heart disease cause of family history. Second, the heart disease can be caused by high blood pressure because the heart to work too hard and also can damage arteries. Another possible cause of heart disease is high cholesterol levels. It is dangerous because fatty deposits build up in blood vessels. Then, diabetes can also cause of heart disease. It because can lead to hardering of the arteries and heart attacks. The last reason is smoking cigarettes. A smoker is more likely to have attack than nonsmokers.

There are three minor causes of heart disease. First of all, having a type a personality such as becoming easily stressed, being overly competitive, aggressive, and intense. For this reason, someone can easily get a heart disease. Another possible cause of heart disease is having a sedentary lifestyle like not getting enough exercise. The last cause of heart disease is obesity. Someone who has got obesity is usually being extremely overweigh and having a poor diet.

In conclusion, heart disease can be caused by major causes and minor causes. So that, be careful with this disease. I suggest you to avoid causes above. 

Having A Meal

When I had dinner in the five star restaurants, there were three kinds of menu that I can choose. These three kinds of menu showed the culture of foreign people when they were having a meal. Having a meal can divided into three groups: Appetizer, Main course, and Dessert.

First, appetizer is opening meal. Appetizer is usually a meal that can increase the appetite’s somebody. The meal can be grouped in appetizer are salad, soup, sushi, onion rings and other.

Second, main course is the main food that usually contains carbohydrate, so this food make people full. Bread, rice, cereal, and pasta are kinds of the main food.

The last group is dessert. Dessert is the closing food. It is usually a sweet food that can complete having meals for people. Dessert cannot make people who are having it to be full. It just makes your eating more complete. The meal that can grouped in dessert, such as ice cream. cake, and pudding.

These three kinds of foods can make your eating healthier. It because each group of the food contains the nutrition that our body need. I suggest you to having a meal start from appetizer, main course, and dessert to make your body healthy.

HOW TO MAKE A PIZZA

Have you ever made a pizza?

Do you know how to make a pizza?

Do you want to make a pizza as delicious as in the restaurant?

            Making a pizza is as not difficult as you think. Just prepare a bowl, an oven, flour, salt, cooking oil, some water, sauce, mozzarella, mushroom, and bell paper. Then you can follow these three steps to guide you make a delicious pizza.

First, put flour, salt, cooking oil, and water into bowl. Then knead dough using your own hand. After the dough blow up, roll it to make a circle.

Second, we are going to make a topping. Grate a mozzarella, and cop mushrooms also bell paper. Next, spread the dough that you have made a circle with sauce and put mozzarella mushrooms and bell paper. You can arrange your own style for the toping. The last step, bake a pizza with an oven approximately 15 minutes. Finally your pizza has already to serve.

In conclusion to make a pizza as delicious as in the restaurant is easy if you follow the three steps above. First make a dough, then prepare for the topping, and arrange it as beautiful as you can. Next bake it.

Laut Merah Restaurant and D'cost

When I have a dinner, I decide to choose seafood. However, I confuse to choose which restaurant that suitable for me. There are two seafood restaurants that my friend recommends: D’cost restaurant and Laut Merah restaurant. Although I had asked to my friends about both restaurants, I still confuse to decide which restaurant that I will choose. Then, I compare that eating seafood at D’cost restaurant and laut Merah restaurant have several similarities and differences.

At the some aspects, both restaurants have a lot in common. First of all, D’cost reataurant is usually crowded at the certain time. Similarly, Laut Merah is usually crowded at the specific time. For example, there are a lot of people at both restaurant about 7 a.m, because at that time most of people are having dinner. After that, the menu of foods is also exactly the same at both restaurants. They offer variety of seafood, start from the usual menu until kinds of fishes that I just know about the name.  In addition, Both D’cost and Laut Merah have a bad service. It makes me have to wait for a long time.

 There are also several differences between two seafood restaurants. First, the location of D’cost is near of my boarding house. In the other hand, the location of Laut Merah restaurant is so far from my boarding house. Besides that, to go to D’cost is more easily than to go to Laut Merah because of public transportation. I just take a public transportation two times to go to D’cost, but to go to Laut merah I have to take a public transportation three times. It also influence to the cost of public transportation. To go to Laut merah needs the cost of public transportation more expensive that to go to D’cost. Then, the situation of D’cost restaurant is minimalist. However, Laut Merah restaurant has modern and beautiful situation. I liked D’cost situation, Although there is crowded, it has a beautiful and comfortable building. Next, the price of foods at D’cost restaurant is more expensive than the price of foods at Laut merah restaurant. In addition, While the most of pengunjung at Laut merah restaurant is students, the pengunjung at D’cost is …. .

In conclusion, after taking everything into consideration, I think I made the right decision. I decide to choose D’cost restaurant. Although the cost of foods is expensive, I love the beautiful and comfortable building. The most important reasons is the location of D’cost restaurant near my boarding house.

I’d like to tell you about someone who taught me religious knowledge in the mosque since I was the sixth class of elementary school until the second class of senior high school. Because I don’t have a photo, I am going to describe that someone. He is a boy with straight short hair, an oval face and almond shaped eyes. He has got a tanned complexion, jug ears, a pointed nose, a plump body, and his height is tall. He is Yudhi Permana. He was born in Garut on July 2^nd, 1979. He was educated at Gajah Mada University, Yogyakarta. He took Indonesia School of Letters. He left Yogyakarta in 2003.

            He is a teacher. First, he teaches in SMA 1 Muhammadiyah, Kadungora; then, he teaches in SMA 1 Leles. Beside he taught me religious knowledge, he taught me Arabic. He is smart because he always got scholarship when he was student in university. As I know, he is from poor family, but he has spirit for studying, seeking knowledge and putting his knowledge to use for society. I can read Holy Quran because he always help me in order to be able reading correctly. That’s great, I can read Holy Quran step by step with knowing “Tajwid”. I began his student six years ago. When the first times I was taught by him, I didn’t know anything even though I felt very stupid student because I couldn’t read Holy Quran with “Tajwid” and Arabic. His teaching way  is good. It’s full with discipline, so I had motivation to be able “Tajwid” and Arabic.

            I am very proud with him because he has spirit which always gives to his students. He is decisive, discipline and responsible. He handles his students same. If they do the mistake, he always gives punishment. I remember when I did the mistake. I ever came late, and I gave punishment. My ear was pulled by him. It’s no problem because make me afraid of don’t do it. I am happy if he is sharing with students. He is humorous person. If he is teaching, he is serious person.  

            Now, he is my neighbor because he lives in nearby my house. He has got married. His wife is Ida Hindasyah. She is a teacher in elementary school. They have had two small daughter.

                The third floor of Scott’s sells house hold appliances. As you enter the store through the main entrance, the furniture department is directly in front of you in the middle of the store. The toy shop is located in the right corner beside the elevator. The lamp department is on the right the carpet shop. The bath shop is on the left between kitchen equipment and electrical appliances. The carpet shop is behind the furniture department in front of the kitchen equipment.

Dr. Alden who directs on English language school has planning on Tuesday, February 21. First, at 8.30 to 9.00 she greets new students. Then at 9.00 to 10.30 she gives a test to new studentds. After taht, at 10.30 to 1.30 she orders new text books. At 11.30 to 12.00 she makes phone calls. Next, at 12.00 to 1.00 the students have lunch with teachers.                 I have several positive effects of choosing a career as a translator and a government empolyee  in tourism. First of all, we can get more knowledge. We can also learn English more comprehensively because to be a translator learns about the meaning of words, so we can understand the text. Then, to be a government employee in tourism, we will meet foreigners from other countries, so we can practice to speak English fluently. Most importantly, we will get enough salary from both of them, so it can be used for family’s needs.

Putut Heru Pratama has worked with us for four years and has made rather good impression. He tends to be smart and critical. Although he is a cooperative person, he is an egoistic person. We have found him, on the whole, to be rather lazy. We feel that he is not admirably suited for the position of doctor with your company.                 Mbah Surip is a famous Indonesian singer in 2009 although he was dead. He was born in Mojokerto, on 5 May 1949. Before he became a singer, he had work experiences in a petroleum company and also in foreign countries like Canada, America, and Yordania. Near the end of the  century he began to make a record album whose song was Ijo Royo-Royo, Indonesia I, Reformasi, Tak Gendong, Barang Baru, and Bangun Tidur. In the middle of 2009 he made a video clip of Tak Gendong, and his song has been hit. At the age of 60, he was dead in the way to Pusdikkes TNI AD hospital, Kramat Jati, Jakarta Timur.

                Exercise is necessary for good health. It is important to keep balance for our body. It makes our body strong and immune to disease. Exercise that we do in daily activity are jogging, walking, running, playing badminton, swimming, etc. Exercuse can be done once or twice in a week. We will feel fresh if you do it regularly.

                September is my happiest month because my hope to have a nephew or a niece is answered by my Lord. After Idul Fitri, I got the information that my first elder brother becomes a father because his wife pregnants, and my sacond elder brother has had a baby. His baby is a girl. She was born in Bandung, on 23 September 2009. I realli want to know and meet his daughter. When my nephew and niece have been six months old, I think they are the beautiful baby who has a cute smile.

                My favourite roomin my house is the living room. It is rather big. There are two pairs of big windows in the right wall. Under the two pairs of big windows , the couches fit perfectly. It is really comfortable. Behind the windows, you can see my flowers garden. The left wall is lined with a case where a television is fitted. My family photo is lining on the left wall at the top of the TV. Under the couches, there is a carpet where my family and I sit or sleep to relax while watching TV.

                It is a traditional house which comes from Padang. It is named Gadang house. If you can see a picture above, it is surrounded by mountains and fields. I in the background there is a lake which runs around the fields. Up on teh mountais there is the cloud whicshelters for the plant in the forest. Fields strech as far as the horizon. Next to the house there is a small woods. On the each side to the left and right the house, you can see cornfields. A path crosses the fields. For a long way off there is a small village which faces in front of a lake. If you are there, you can see the beautiful scenery of the mountains which slope down to the lake.

                Helmi Nopiansyah and Ai Siti Lisma have many things in common. For example, Helmi and Ai graduated from SMP 1 Kadungora, Garut. Helmi and Ai Live in the same village. He does not like seafood, and neither does she. In addition, both of them have the same blood types. They also like watching the Asian plays. Another similarity, between the two people is that they have the same hobbies. They are walking, cycling and swimming. They like them very much. Both of them usually ride bicycle in the morning. Beside their hobbies are same, they have the same character. They are rather selfish, but they are very humorous.

Garut Plaza or GP food court is a nice food court to be visited in Garut. It is located near Pasar Baru, six minutes walk from Asia department store. The style is simple and traditional. It has delicious Sundanese food and ice ‘Si Peueut’. For lunch, Its costs Rp 9,000-17,000. There are many kinds of food and also they are healthy for our body although the price is rather expensive. I seldom eat in this place if there are many people because it is too crowded, so the service is slow. Beside music, GP has hotspot area. While listening to the music and eating, you can also browse something in this area.

Most of people who are taking a vacation are not prepare well. They always miss something that they need for their vacation.  For all these reasons, people who are going to vacation have to do these tips: book a flight before, and prepare the thing that you need.

After you decide the place that you are going to go, first you have to find the best time to book a flight. Gray Pilgrim said  “…a weekday booking is bound to cost lesser than those on weekends. So the best time to book flights online is more than six to seven weeks in advance and the best day to book a flight is probably a weekday afternoon!” (Pilgrim, 2010). According to Pilgrim that you can book a flight on the weekday  rather than you book a flight on weekends because on weekends most of people are planning their holiday on the weekend, so the cost of a flight on weekends are more expensive than book a flight on weekdays. In addition, on weekends there will be a lot of people, so your vacation is not comfortable.

The second point that you have to do before you take a vacation is prepare all of the things that you need for your vacation. Make a packing list is essential, so before you go, the things that you need are in your bag (Satalkar, 2010). In process to make a list, you do not have to bring all of thing that may necessary for your vacation. You just list the thing that you really need and leave unnecessary things because it will make your bag pull of the things. There are certain items that are necessary to pick such as vaccination certificates, medicines, charger for your phone, and camera that fully of battery and memory card (Satalkar, 2010)

In conclusion, before you are going to vacation, you have to ensure the entire things that are necessary. First you have to finds the best time to book a flight, so your vacation will feel comfortable. Second, you have also prepared all of items that necessary for your holiday. After you do these tips, I hope your vacation is more pleased and comfortable. Moreover you can really enjoy your vacation without any challenges.

When you are packing for a trip, there are certain items, which are required irrespective of the genders of the picnickers. Therefore, we will first see the items, which you can pack as combine items for you and your partner.

 If you are really looking for a different, motivated, and a bit adventure drama movie, Sang Pemimpi is a worth paying one. This movie is based on a novel with the same title Sang pemimpi, the second novel of tetra logy Laskar Pelangi, which is a best seller novel that is written by Andrea Hirata.

 The “Sang Pemimpi” was made by the well known Indonesia movie director Riri Riza. Riri Riza has been directing many best Indonesian movies with different genre, from children adventure, Petualangan Sherina, to drama movie Cinta untuk Rena, and documenter movie Gie, which is played by teenagers’ favorite actor Nicholas Saputra. Sang Pemimpi continues the success of those movies by achieving Indonesian Movie Award 2010 as the best movie of the year. This movie provides a good experience for movie goers. Besides you can enjoy the adventure of the movie, you can also take important messages.

The story, which takes place in Bangka Belitung Island, centers Ikal’s, a young humorous and a bit inconsistent boy, played by Vikri Septiawan, who passionate his dream to study in Sorbornne, France. To reach his dream comes true, Ikal goes to Bogor and works part time as a photocopy servant, and continue work as a postman. He collects money in order he can attend University of Indonesia and get a scholarship to study in Sorbonne, France. It is not easy for Ikal living in Bogor, but he struggles and motivates himself that his dream will be come true if he works very hard. In the end, after making proposal to European Union, Ikal continues his study in Sorbonne, France.

The best things about this movie are the spirit and motivation that the characters in this movie show to us.  Imaginations of young man from remote area, who lives far away from good services that most of city young man can afford, but they are dare to dream and encourage us that wherever you live it is not something matter.

Accordingly, Sang Pemimpi is a film that motivate you to have a dream and rich your dream with hard work.

Nowadays, most of universities accept their new students with independent enrollment. It is happen in Indonesia, when the government cannot give the university subsidize anymore. Then, the universities earn money from their new students with independent enrollment. The cost of independent enrollment is much more expensive than the national enrollment. Also, the university gives large number for students who want to enter the university by independent enrollment than the quota of the national enrollment. In this case, the university wants to get more money from the independent enrollment to complete its facilities, but the problem is the number of students that accept in the university with independent enrollment should be decreased because it is unfair, not good, and wasteful.

            Independent enrollment is unfair for the students whose good intelligent without financial support. Although most universities need much more money to complete their facilities or to build their building, it is unfair for some students. It means that the students can easily accept in the favorite university just because have lots of money. This case shows that to have a good education, people must have lots of money, so how about the poor? They cannot change their life because there is no chance for the poor to get well education.

            Independent enrollment is also not good for the university itself. Despite the fact that the university get much more money from independent enrollment, their reputation will be decreased little by little. Because the university has more attention to independent enrollment, they do not pay attention to the intelligent that the students have. Although the university has the beautiful buildings and good facilities, the university does not have the intelligent students.

            Independent enrollment is wasteful for the university. It is certainly true that the university get much more money to complete its facilities and build its building, but the university has done wasteful things. The university cannot increase its quality of students because the university does not pay attention to the intelligent of the student. In addition, their reputation will be hancur because the university always thinks about money. The university has forgotten about their duty to teach the students cleverer than before; not just earn money from the students.

            In conclusion, independent enrollment should be deleted because it is unfair, not good, and wasteful. Most universities in Indonesia will decrease their quality of students little by little because they do not pay attention to the intelligent that that students have.

teenVOGUE Magazine

In order to fulfil one of the essay writing assignments about writing an analytical report, we chose and analyzed three popular magazines for young girls called teenVOGUE, but they are different editions.  This magazine is also published in some cities, such as New York, Boston, Tokyo, Jakarta, Copenhagen, etc. We found that, from the eye-cathing cover and the interesting articles. TeenVOGUE is a magazine that is designed for young girls, aged 15 to 18.

When we analyzed this magazine, we examined all of the aspects of the magazine by analyzing the cover, table of contents of several matters, and the writing style on the articles and  advertisements. In analyzing this magazine we act as the readers.

First aspect, the whole covers in each edition have colourful designs, but they are not too bright and not too dark. Fonts, font sizes and colours are designed  beautifully in order that the magazine cover becomes eye-catching to publish to the public. The article titles on the cover use a simple language which contains phrases and simple sentences. In addition, they have a curious tone. For examples,  “ Get Fall’s Hottest Hair” (August 2010), “ 34 Dreamy Dresses at Every Price+Punky-Pretty Jewels and Bags”(April 2008), and “Juiced Up Accessories”(November 2007). Those words show curious feeling because you can feel them when you read at the first time. You will ask to your heart and think how you get fall’s hottest hair, what 34 dreamy dresses are, and how you can juice up accessories. Each magazine edition displays the most interesting point in fashion. For examples, November  edition in 2007 discussed fashion for job, April edition in 2008 explained prom dress, and August edition in 2010 talked about denim and jeans.  Moreover, the cover boys and cover girls show the cover story on the magazine which will be told in the content so far. The models look young, stylist and sophisticated. Their dressed up ways are like teenagers, aged 15-18. Consequently, this magazine is appropriate for senior high school students.

Second aspect that we were analyzed is about the table of contents. There are three pages that are not in a good order. The table of contents shows the focus of the magazine. It is about fashion for young girls. One of them is “how to recycle your old-clothes” and how to make it more fashionable and more confident when they wear it. For example, the title of the articles are “ fashion at Work:Trench lesson”, “Fit for a (prom) queen”, “Fashion in the family:Modern English”(April 2008). Beside the article about fashion, there are also several articles about health, environment, issues and horoscopes. These articles are supported by many beauty product advertisements and short stories. In addition, the models in the magazine are young celebrities.

Third aspect, the articles in teenVOGUE follow a pattern: short sentences, short paragraphs, and uncomplicated vocabulary. On the other words, the articles in this magazine are easy to comprehend, but in some articles the authors used informal or slang language. For example, “If you’re style-stavvy and looking to rejuvenate your wardrobe for next-to-nothing, you won’t wanna miss this mega clothing trade” (Style Swap, p. 44). Moreover, almost all of the articles only wrote 1 to 2 paragraphs. For example, in the cover story, “Rihanna Rocks,” Rihanna told about her traffic jam and lunch experiences to the reporter (p. 36).  Additionally, there were so many advertisements about fashion and also beauty products for teenagers. The advertisements were packed with colourful designs, full of visual effects, eye-catching publication, and hyperbright graphics. Exactly, these kind of advertisements can attract the readers especially young girl; therefore, they want to read it and maybe they would like to buy it.

Furthermore, in analyzing teenVOGUE  there are grammatical structures and tones on the articles. The grammatical structures that the magazine used was passive voice and simple past tense; moreover, the style of sentences used simple, compound, and complex sentences. Another example on the same article is that she says, “Mahlia had died instantly. Willow broke her pelvis, and Daryl and I suffered severe head trauma” (p. 67). From the examples above without specifically saying, Lisa was sad. The author has conveyed this idea. “Died,” “broke,” “suffered,” and “trauma” carried out this feeling.

To sump up, teenVOGUE is a magazine for young girls which provides fashion style, beauty products and celebrity issues. To attract the readers, it is designed with colourful cover and pages, and it also has simple writing style in order to make the reader easier to comprehend the contents of magazine. However, we recommend that the magazine should decrease the advertisements and the message of the advertisements should be clear.
